Standout Features
There are two primary standout features on this serger. First, L660 has a knee lift that lowers the presser feet. This is a standout feature because it allows users to get more clearance underneath the presser foot for bulky projects. Second of all, the Bernina L660 includes a presser foot that swings out to the left. The swing out presser foot makes it a lot easier to install new needles.
Premium Expectations
The overwhelming majority of high end overlockers, including Bernina L660, have a few features everyone expects to see.

- Ability to program the needle to stop in up or down position
- Adjustable lighting
- Air looper threading
By far, air threading is the most convenient function because it allows one to thread the machine without having to work. To air thread, you simply flip a switch, pull down 15inches of thread, place thread underneath the air thread hole, and hit the presser foot.
One Downside
A number of high end overlockers have auto tension for looper. The auto tension makes it so you don’t have to make any adjustments to the thread tension on your machine. Essentially, the auto tension makes it so you don’t have to think about how to use the serger. However, Bernina L660 doesn’t have auto tension. Instead, you have to adjust 4 thread tension knobs to get your thread tension just right. This one missing feature is a big enough to be a deal breaker for many crafters who prefer a fully automated system at this particular price point. At the same time, there are a some users who prefer to have manual tension dials. Their mindset is centered around an idea that more features make for more things that can go wrong.
Thoughtful design features
We have spoken about the downside of Bernina L660. However, there is one thoughtful design feature to brighten your spirts. Bernina decided to give users extra clearance right of the needle for working on larger projects. There is 4 3/4 inches to the right of the needle and 3 1/4 workspace height.
