All About The Crinkle Finish Sewing Machine

I never wanted a crinkle finish sewing machine because they are ugly. However, these ugly ducklings have a rich history worth exploring.
History behind Crinkle Finish Sewing Machines
During the 1920’s, White introduced crinkle finish paint to the sewing machine industry. The rugged paint was marketed as an anti-glare surface for relieving eye strain. It was also marketed as an extra durable paint that wouldn’t be prone to chips or scratches.
Materials & Weight
While many crinkle finish sewing machines were made from cast iron. There were also a number of models made from magnesium. Magnesium sewing machines are more lightweight than their cast iron counterparts.
Brands
White purchased Domestic sewing machine brand and produced a few Domestic badge machines with crinkle finish. In addition, they produced many crinkle finish sewing machines for Sears. Sears branded sewing machines were labeled Kenmore, Minnesota, and Franklin. So today, you’ll find many crinkle finish sewing machine models labeled under the above mentioned brand names.
While White produced the overwhelming majority of crinkle finish sewing machines, other brands copied the trend by making crinkle finish machines of their own.
