If you would like to learn more about the Pfaff Creative Icon before purchasing a new or even preowned model, you’ve come to the right place.

Basics About The Pfaff Creative Icon Line As A Whole

The Creative Icon line has an IDT system for feeding fabric. It also includes 9mm maximum stitch width and 5mm max stitch length. Most of the time, this model comes with luggage and 4 embroidery hoops. But, maximum hoop sizes differ depending upon what version of the machine you purchase. The sewing machine (not including the embroidery module) weighs in 34LBS and has a massive foot print of 28.7″ × 22.4″ × 15.7 inches. With the embroidery unit attached, Creative Icon is a whopping 48 inches long! Since the Icon is so large, owners need a sturdy table of at least 60 inches long with plenty of room, in front and behind, for the embroidery module to move around.

Pfaff Creative Icon I

The first Creative Icon released in 2017. It had a number of features. However, its standout features were:

  • 10″ Inch color touch screen with 12.2″ to the right of the needle
  • Wifi connectivity with Mysewnet cloud storage
  • ActivStitch™ Technology to auto select thread tension
  • Maximum Hoop size of 14×10 inches

Today, those features aren’t very impressive. But, they were cutting edge at the time of this machines release. The Icon I is still a nice sewing machine although it doesn’t have a ton of bells and whistles on it. In the second hand market and even at some shops, the machine can be found for a sharply discounted rate.

Icon II

The sequel to Creative Icon released in 2021. When it released, advertising represented it as the first with artificial intelligence. In reality, machine makers simply made Icon II compatible with Google assistant and Alexa. Ai compatibility allowed Pfaff II to operate via voice commands. However, it’s unclear as to whether or not users took advantage of the AI component on a regular basis.

The secondary new feature to Pfaff Creative Icon II was a projector and camera. The projector and camera made embroidery placement easy and allowed users to have laser guides for placing stitches. Overall, the projector was a nice addition allowing for users to sew without having to draw guide lines with erasable ink. Since the sewing machine included more features, the power plug had to change to accommodate the changes. Instead of having a regular power plug. The sewing machine received a power brick much like what you would find on a laptop.

Last of all, Icon II included a 14x13inch hoop in box. Before, this extra large size hoop was sold separately.

Pfaff Creative Icon III

In fall of 2026, Pfaff released the Icon III. Icon III was exactly like its predecessor, but with three minor changes.

Interface Updates

Pfaff added a Quick Quilt Settings tab. The tab was designed to pull up bobbin thread, turn off ActivStitch and the thread cutter. This was a highly requested change because many Icon users are quilters. In addition to adding the Quick Quilt Setting, users were now able to draw their own stitch designs on screen. The stitches didn’t have to be the maximum width of 9mm, which opened up a lot of possibilities for what one could do with a regular stitch on a sewing machine. Outside of these two changes, Pfaff made it easier for embroiders to resize and scale designs without re-hooping.

Free Arm

The third interaction of Creative Icon has a free arm for embroidery. This was a game changer that opened up new possibilities for embroidering on items like socks, bags, and sleeves.

Hoop Changes

Pfaff Creative Icon 3 offers by far the largest amount of hoops ever seen within the product line. The maximum hoop size is 18.3 x 10.2 inches. This means you can embroider much larger.

Overall

The Pfaff Creative Icon line as a whole a lot of opportunities for those who make garments, embroider, or quilt. However, the line of sewing machines appears to be most catered to those who enjoy quilting. I say this because of the massive embroidery window combined with sewing capabilities of the machine.
