There’s an interesting machine on the market called Janome Memory Craft 1000. It’s a sewing and embroidery combo unit with a compact footprint. Combo units are a great way to save space and money because you get two machines instead of one.

However, some prefer to have separate machines so they don’t continually have to change settings. For the set of folks who prefer 2 separate machines, Janome has provided an embroidery only version of the machine called Janome Memory Craft 100e. I’ve given an overview below and also provided you with a detailed YouTube video below.

Basic General information

Janome MC1000 has a max stitch length of 5mm with a max width of 7mm. The 7mm stitch width is great for stitching out patterns because they will be full scale and not all scrunched up. However, wide feed dogs are not ideal for piecing or turning tight corners. So, this sort of machine lends itself better to tasks like embroidery or decorative top stitching.

On The Sewing Side

You’ve got 300 stitches and 12 buttonhole fonts. They’ve included more stitches than one person could ever hope to use. So, I don’t know who would be dissatisfied. In addition, Janome Memory Craft 1000 comes with a zigzag and straight stitch needle plate. This is always good because you can use the straight stitch plate to prevent thin fabrics from getting sucked down into the needle plate.

Likewise, there is a hole for a knee lift. However, at the time of writing this blog article, it is unclear as to whether or not the knee lift is included or sold separately.

These days, most computerized sewing machines have a bobbin thread sensor. The sensor can be very annoying because it stops sewing to notify you that the bobbin is almost empty. However, Janome did a wonderful thing by allowing users to turn off this function inside of settings.

Now Lets Talk Embroidery

The most important aspect of a embroidery machine is the embroidery window size. This machine has a embroidery window of 5.5in x 5.5in. This size embroidery hoop is ideal for left chest logo and monogram designs. Likewise, the square 5.5in size is ideal for embroidering on beanies. Aside from the 5.5in hoop, you have the option to purchase a 5×1.6inch or 2x2inch hoop for embroidering on sleeves or in other tight areas.

Embroidering in tight areas is made much easier by the free arm. The free arm is an exciting edition to the Janome Memory Craft 1000 because there aren’t many machines in this price range with the feature.

Downsides

Your love or hate of this machine will all depend on what kind of sewing you plan on doing. For those who want to embroider in small spaces, this machine is one to consider. Since Janome MC1000 has a small footprint, it is also ideal for small living quarters, retreats, and classes.

On the downside, Janome MC1000 is not designed for those who want to quilt large quilt tops or embroider extra large garments. I say this because 5.5inches is the maximum embroidery window sizes. I also say this because there’s only 7 inches of harp space to the right of the needle. While you can embroider in a small space and tile the design, this does not appear to be the intended purpose of this sewing machine model.

I’d also like to leave a word of caution for folks with poor eyesight because Janome MC1000 has a 3.5 inch screen size, which means fonts and images can’t be enlarged by much.

Positive thoughts

The Janome Memory Craft 1000 is a sewing and embroidery machine with a lot of built in features ideal for someone looking to start a small embroidery business. It is also a wonderful machine for someone who would like to embellish garments, bags, or other small items. While Janome MC1000 isn’t cheap, it also isn’t priced like a second mortgage. The pricing is an important part of this conversation because, you get a lot for your money with this model.
