Pfaff 680 is a tan colored sewing and embroidery combo machine. The funny thing is…
… it doesn’t come with the embroidery unit out of the box.
Although 680 does come with 330 embroidery designs and 8 fonts, it doesn’t include the embroidery unit. This is an entirely separate purchase. For those who do opt to get the embroidery unit, you’ll find there is a maximum embroidery window of 14in x 7in. You’ll also discover the embroidery module comes with one additional hoop in 4.7in x 4.7in format.
Aside from the embroidery hoops and unit, there is a Creativate app on Pfaff 680. The app allows users to edit embroidery designs and save files to the cloud. While there is a free tier of Creativate app. You need a paid subscription to access all functions and features. Although the app is prominently featured, you still have the option to use your own embroidery software and upload designs via USB or wifi.
Common features
Pfaff 680 has over 400 sewing stitch patterns and a maximum stitch width of 9mm. This means you can easily stitch out patterns without having them look compressed. In addition to all the stitch patterns, Pfaff provides all the features one would expect from a modern computerized sewing machine. Common features include things like:
- Needle up/down
- Mirror Image
- Thread Cutter
- Bobbin thread sensor (lets you know when thread is almost empty)
Pfaff 680 differences
680 has a few features common to other Pfaff machines. However, these features are not on machines from all brands. For example, 680 allows you to wind a bobbin without removing the thread from your sewing machine needle. This was a feature found on Viking Jade (as Viking is owned by the same company).

However, the needle to bobbin winding mechanism isn’t found on many other brands of sewing machines at the present moment. Secondly, this machine doesn’t have a manual pressure foot lifter. Instead, the pressure foot lift has been moved to a button on front of the machine. These features are loved by some, but a deal breaker for others. So, it is very important for you to be aware of those things.
Overall
Pfaff 680 offers buttery smooth sewing and IDT, which is their built in walking foot system. The built in walking foot is nice for traveling over thick seams and fabrics. In addition, the model offers an onboard user guide for learning your machine. For those interested in the model, I would suggest visiting a dealer before making purchase. This will allow you to make an informed decision about the machine.
