Bernina 7 Series was updated to include many of the features once only included on the 790 Pro.
Hilarious “Updates”
Companies have had automatic needle threaders on their machines for decades. So, it was quite funny to learn this was being promoted as a special feature on the 790 Pro. Long story short, the auto needle threader has been added to the 2025 release of 735, 700, and 770.
Likewise, built-in Wifi was promoted as being a magical feature on the 790 Pro. It was comical because sewing machines have had built in Wifi for years. But now, you can also find that feature on the latest 7 series machines.
Bernina is often late to the party with features.
But, they always work super hard to make sure features are done to perfection before adding them into a sewing machine.
Great Updates
While the above mentioned updates aren’t anything spectacular. There are 3 new features that make the updated machines stand out.
- Pin point laser
- Morph
- BQM
Laser
There are lasers in many high end sewing machines. But, we haven’t seen any lasers quite like this one. The laser on the 7 series doesn’t just create a straight line. Instead, the laser is a pin point that says in line with the needle. This way, you can see where the needle is going to strike. It is a awesome feature.
Morph
You can now morph embroidery designs to fit into odd shaped objects. This means that feathering on your free motion quilting can fit into an octagon by simply dragging corners to skew the design. It’s a feature many Photoshop and Affinity users have seen for years. It is great the feature is not included right on the screen of your sewing machine.
BQM
BQM files are traditionally long arm quilt machine files. But now, you can use those same files on your 7 series machine. This is wonderful for those who already have a long arm and would like to transfer designs between machines. But, it is also wonderful for those who cannot get a long arm. It’s great because you can now have access to the same file types and tile designs to stitch a pattern over a large quilt on your smaller machine.
One Important Thing To Note
The 700 model is embroidery only, while 735 is a 5mm maximum stitch width machine. The 5mm machine is ideal for those who make garments and do the occasional decorative design on their garments.
It would also work for someone who plans on using the machine for piecing. If you are interested in using placing decorative designs on your quilt tops, however, It makes a lot more sense to just get the 770. The 770 has 9mm maximum stitch width. This just means your decorative stitches will show up better and be less scrunched.
