Bernette B68 Maker released with an accessory box and even a vacuum cleaner. Here’s what I found out about this overlocker/coverstitch machine.

Original Release

The original B68 released in 2024 with a lot of special features. The special features included

  • air threading
  • 16 overlock stitches
  • 7 cover stitches
  • 8 combo (overlock chain stitches)
  • knee lift

Accessories

The original black and white machine included a large slide table for completing bigger projects along with large and small cover stitch inserts. In addition, the Bernette B68 included a bin for dumping your overlock clippings along with the normal stuff you would expect to come with an overlocker. Of course, it included tweezers, a needle set, and coverstitch lock tool. But, other presser feet and accessories were an additional purchase. Just in case you missed everything I just mentioned, here is a summary of everything the original model included.

  • Standard Overlock/Coverstitch Combo Foot
  • Knife cover
  • Coverstitch Insert
  • Coverstitch Insert for Slide-on Table
  • Slide-on Table
  • Freearm Cover
  • Knee Lifter
  • Spool Stand with Needle Pad

Here’s what the manufactures website won’t tell you.

The overwhelming majority of reviews on Pattern review, Reddit, and other forums are positive. However, you will find the occasional machine for sell second hand. Private sellers get rid of B68 because they find themselves not using it much.  I wouldn’t be alarmed because this is a common theme with all overlockers, not just B68.

Who is best suited to B68 maker?

Someone who makes a lot of knits would absolutely love this machine. In addition, this overlocker and coverstitch combo would be excellent for an avid quilter. It is great for finishing edges and all that good stuff. So, it is the ideal machine for an intermediate sewist who does a lot of sewing. However, I do think it’s too much machine for a beginner or person who only completes 1 or 2 sewing projects per year.

Original vs maker version

Original version has more toned down colors. So, you could purchase the original and get accessories separately. But honestly, it makes a lot more sense to get the maker. I say this because added feet make it a lot easier to use full functions and features without extra work.
