A number of makers sell handmade crafts on Tik Tok. However, the USA banned Tik Tok and it was scheduled to go dark on January 19th 2025. I did a live about the situation, so you can go and check it out.

The government claims there is a security risk because data is being sent to China via Tik Tok. However, this claim doesn’t make sense to a lot of small business owners. It doesn’t make sense because countless apps, stores, and digital devices all come from China. These apps, stores, and digital devices all collect data. So, why is Tik Tok the only one being targeted?

The reason for a ban no longer matters, only consequences.

Millions of  Tik Tok users have the platform as a sole means of earning income. So, this is a devastating blow to their livelihoods. While the ban is a devastating blow, the only thing to do is explore other means of making income online.



Here are a few areas to explore further.

Non of these other platforms match the power of Tik Tok algorithm. But, they are still worth of exploration.

The update

The app went dead before it was scheduled to go offline. But, it was brought back online temporarily as the new president elect was inagurated. At the time of this writing, the future of Tik Tok remains uncertain. However, one thing is certain. Crafters and small business owners must adapt!
