Do You Really Need a Tutto Sewing Machine Case?

Tutto rolling sewing machine totes are nice, but do you really need one? The price is more expensive than the average sewing machine case. So, is there a justifiable reason for buying? Here’s what I discovered after 3 months of researching different sewing machine travel bags.

Tutto Folds Down Smaller & Faster

Tutto sewing machine rolling totes fold down smaller than any other sewing machine rolling case I found. I looked at multiple mainstream and premium brands including:

• Everything Mary
• Bluefig
• Bernina
• Brother

With all of the other brands, the sides fold into the bottom compartment where the sewing machine rests.  The configuration leaves the outside frame sticking out, which is very awkward for storage.

Plus, the whole process takes a lot more steps.

Tutto medium is around 5 inches tall. When laid 100% flat, takes up about the same amount of space as a winter puffer coat.

By contrasts, Tutto has 4 dedicated buttons for quickly collapsing into a tiny form factor.

As a result, the wheels and entire frame are laid flat in seconds. The small form factor is a huge advantage to anyone with limited space.

Fabric

Tutto is made from durable 840D Nylon, which is what you would normally find in a set of higher end travel luggage. The vast majority of other brands use polyester. Nylon is stronger than polyester.  However, polyester is faster drying than nylon.

Blufig = Depends on model. Maisy Quilter= Polyester | TB19 = tapestry fabric

Brother= Depends on the model. Most = tapestry fabric

***I’m not sure what brands mean by tapestry fabric because I don’t think any of this fabric is being woven by hand. ***

Framing

Tutto = Fiberglass frame

*I didn’t notice a who lot of differences between the frames from the different brands.

The Wheels on The Tutto Go Round and Round.

Tutto has 4 wheels.

All other brands of sewing machine trolleys only have two wheels. Two wheels means you must tilt the sewing machine back to roll it. For those with lightweight sewing machines, this isn’t a problem. However, two wheels are terrible for hauling super heavy sewing machines due to the shear weight.

Replacements!

In addition to having 4 wheels, Tutto allows users to order additional wheels for replacing broken ones. This is a huge deal because (to my knowledge) none of the other brands offer additional wheels.

Big wheels

The Xl  Tutto cases come with monster wheels, which are supposed to be better for hauling larger stuff. I haven’t seen the other brands offer anything similar.

Complaints

My only issue with Tutto is it runs small. You need at least 2 additional inches from your sewing machine dimensions in order for Tutto to fit your machine. I have the Tutto medium size. It fits my Brother SE625 and the Bernina 1010 too. However, I must say the Bernina is a tighter fit because it is a taller machine.* Note: If you are getting this case for carrying a Bernina 1000-1010, I would suggest either going up to the large or opting for the 17″ Serger on wheels trolley.

Do you really need the Tutto rolling sewing machine trolley?

Do you have a lightweight machine, few space concerns, or a machine with a replacement value under $300?

This is an Everything Mary case. Prices are reasonable.

For those without major space concerns and/or a lightweight sewing machine, the Tutto is overkill. You really don’t need 4 wheels to carry a lightweight Singer Heavy Duty, Brother PE400, or Janome Magnolia sized sewing machine. Those machines will do just fine in a standard 2 wheel rolling tote.

My rule is to never spend more than 25% of the replacement value of your sewing machine on a tote. At the time of this posts, the costs for replacing my Brother 625se has skyrocketed. So, Tutto was just in line with the reasonable costs for protecting my investment. Otherwise, I would have just gotten an inexpensive case from Walmart.

Do you have a heavy sewing machine, limited space, and/or a machine with a replacement value over $300?

The case cost more, but it is a justifiable purchase  if any of the above mentioned things describe your situation. For users with very expensive or heavy sewing machines, Tutto is perfect because:

1. It has 4 wheels for better weight distribution
2. Wheels are easily replaceable
3. You get better fabric for more durability
4. It folds down and stores better
