Black and Decker Power Scissors were given to me as a gift. Without further delay, I will give a brief review of the product.

Straight out the pack

The power scissors come with an adapter for charging. Upon opening the package, you will need to charge the scissors. Charging doesn’t take very long. When the scissors were taken straight out of the brand new package, they took 30 minutes to charge. Once charged, I was able to cut for a little over an hour before the device needed to be charged again.

Upon Charging

Upon charging, you must unlock the scissors. This is a wonderful feature for safety purposes.

Cutting

Black and Decker Power Scissors cut thru fabric like butter. While the scissors have a smooth cut, you have to keep a steady hand in order to prevent the electric scissors from getting away from you. The control of the scissors aren’t a big issue and I cut out items without a problem on the first try.

Other cutting claims

The packaging claims these scissors can cut thru cardboard. They will cut thru cardboard, but it doesn’t mean anyone should use the scissors for this purpose. While the scissors can handle cardboard, it doesn’t feel like the scissors are made to handle that kind of abuse. Although Black and Decker Power scissors don’t feel sturdy enough to handle constant cardboard cutting, they will 100% handle paper or lightweight carpet foam without problems.

This makes the power scissors are ideal for crafting with craft foam, paper, and lightweight gift wraps.

Disadvantages

The scissors aren’t easy to use on small items because the scissors are just too cumbersome for this sort of tasks. Also, they aren’t very practical to use if you are just cutting out one pattern at a time. I say its not practical because the scissors  require charging and it can be quite the hassle. Honestly, it is better to just use regular Ginger fabric sheers and/or a rotary cutter for cutting out single projects or very small pattern pieces.

The other thing I didn’t like about these scissors was they cannot be used during charge mode. In other words, once you run out of juice, you have to wait for the scissors to re-charge before using them again.

A recap of the disadvantages:

  • Not practical for cutting out single patterns or small pieces
  • Must be charged
  • Cannot be used while charging

Benefits

While Black and Decker Power Scissors are impractical for cutting out small items and single projects, they are ideal for cutting out large volumes of fabric. Personally, I used the scissors speed up the process of cutting out multiple graduation sashes during peek season. The scissors split my fabric cutting time in half and allowed me to finish work without having swollen or sore wrists.

When speaking about health and work safety, I cannot forget to mention the wonderful ergonomics of Black and Decker Power Scissors. In the past, I had a vintage Singer brand of electric scissors. They didn’t have soft grips and were very awkward to hold in the hand. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find how well Black and Decker Power Scissors contour to human hands! The scissors are large and shaped well. Plus, they have a comfortable rubbery grip ideal for extended use.

Overall, I would 1000% recommend these scissors to anyone who has arthritis or carpel tunnel. I would also recommend to scissors, as a preventative measure, to anyone who works on projects that required a ton of repetitive cutting motions.

A recap of the benefits:

  • Saves Time
  • Ergonomic
  • Great for preventative care or pain management
