Coming in at the most expensive out of all three, Heavy Duty Add-On Metal Skirt Hangers come in handy if you are someone who wears a lot of skirts. These hangers can be used for pants too. However, I find them most useful for skirts. In terms of durability, the hangers measure up.

After 2 years of daily use, none of the clips have broken. This is saying a lot considering how I’ve tried Target and Walmart skirt hangers in the years previous with dismal results. None of the clips have broken, but I will admit a few of the sharp edge protectors did come off. It has never poised any problems or caused any scratches, but it is something to note.

In addition to durability, these skirt hanger have hooks so users stack multiple skirts in a vertical configuration. Two skirts fit each hanger, which means 4 skirts can fit in the same amount of space as one skirt hanging on a regular hanger. This is a game changer, saving lots of valuable space.

The heavy duty add-on metal skirt hangers costs $14 for a 10 pack, which is a lot of money if you are on a fixed income. However, they eliminate frustrations caused by broken clips and are still cheaper than buying high-end hangers.

Basic velvet hangers: If you’ve got a TJ Maxx or Marshals in your area, visit because they have quality velvet hangers that look nice and are sure to last a year or two.

Runner ups don’t win first place for a reason. Velvet hangers look pretty, but they break.

I’ve developed a love/hate relationship with velvet hangers because they simply crack under pressure. Thin velvet hangers are great for conserving space, but not wonderful for handling heavy fabric. Over time, velvet also flattens to expose the ugly plastic underneath.

While velvet hangers lack longevity, replacements won’t break the bank. Since velvet hangers break often, I recommend sticking with grey or black as non-standard colors are often unavailable when it’s time to replace a few hangers.
