In a world where most people purchase online and don’t have the opportunity to feel the fabric, it is super important to know fabric and understand what you are buying.

Yes, you can purchase a fabric swatch book.

Here are two fabric swatch books, I dream of owning.

These are great books. However, many folks don’t have $80-$150 laying around to buy a book full of fabric scraps.

When you don’t have money, get creative.

You can create your own swatch book by asking for fabric samples from stores. Or, hit up your local thrift store and purchase cheap clothing with the labels still inside. Simply copy the fabric content information from the label and clip a piece of fabric for quick reference. If you are not into thrift store shopping,  collect fabric each time you make a purchase.  You will always refer back to your fabric swatch book for inspiration.

It is easy to use the template to create your own swatch book.

To use the fabric swatch template:

  1. Affix your fabric using 3M double sided tape.
  2. Write down all the fabric information.
  3. Place your fabric templates into a page protector. *I like to place two fabric swatch template pages into each page protector sheet. This keeps the swatch book from becoming bulky and makes it possible to view up to 8 fabrics at a time.
  4. Stick the page protector(s) inside a 3 ring binder of your choice.
